I grew up in Shelby County, Kentucky. My parents had a small farm where we raised tobacco, beef cattle and Christmas trees. I spent many winter days as a child standing on a 5-gallon bucket so that I could see over the table in the stripping room of the barn to strip tobacco while listening to Kentucky basketball games. I also learned to stand my ground as a few dozen cattle ran my direction when we herded them to new pastures. In the summer, we raised a garden and my brother and I sold vegetables on the side of the road. We baled hay, bushhogged and mowed. We trimmed Christmas trees each summer and helped sell them each winter. I was fortunate to have parents that wanted to teach me about work ethic, responsibility, and commerce and those experiences have helped me build a law practice from scratch.
After graduating high school, I attended the University of Kentucky where I earned a double major in Business Management and Marketing. I went on to law school at the University of Mississippi where I earned my Juris Doctor. Then I returned home to Kentucky and began practicing law in the Lexington area.
Sometimes when I get together with my old friends from elementary school, they’ll tell a story about how our friendship came about. I was new to the school and didn't know anybody. At recess, a bunch of boys were throwing sticks and rocks at two other boys. I picked up some of those sticks and rocks from the ground around them and aggressively threw them back at the bunch until they retreated. Those two boys that I defended became some of my best friends and remain so today. When I started practicing law, I found myself taking more and more personal injury cases because I loved coming alongside individual clients in their fights with large companies and helping them find a just resolution.
My faith, family and friends are central to my life. My amazing wife supports and encourages me and my two young boys keep me energized. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to practice law and follow my passion. I have been able to represent hundreds of people who have been injured by the reckless acts of corporations and others and have fought alongside them to get a just resolution that pays for past and future medical expenses, lost wages and more. And Lord willing, I will get the chance to represent hundreds more.
